Individual Counseling

Individual counseling (sometimes called psychotherapy or therapy) is a process wherein clients work one-on-one with a trained therapist in a safe, caring, and confidential environment.

In individual counseling, you can explore your feelings, beliefs, and/or behaviors; work through challenging or influential memories; identify aspects of your life that you would like to change; better understand yourself and others; set personal goals; and work toward desired change.

Why do people go to counseling?

People seek therapy for a wide variety of reasons - coping with major life challenges, childhood trauma, experiencing depression, dealing with anxiety, or simply desiring personal growth and greater self-knowledge. The time a client spends in therapy varies based on the client’s unique needs and goals. A client and therapist may work together for as few as five or six sessions or as long as several years. Unsure of how much time you need? No worries! We will work together in your first session to clarify your goals for therapy.

Is therapy right for me?

Seeking out therapy is an individual choice. There are many reasons people come to therapy. Sometimes it is to deal with long-standing psychological issues. Other times, it is in response to unexpected changes in one’s life - such as a work transition, divorce, or the loss of a family member. Working with a therapist can help provide insight, support, and new strategies for all types of life challenges. Therapy can help address other issues including depression, anxiety, conflict, grief, stress management, body image issues, and general life transitions. Therapy is right for anyone who is interested in getting the most out of their life by taking responsibility, creating greater self-awareness, and working towards change in their lives.
